Quick Verdict
The Destroyer is the gold standard of distance drivers. Overstable enough to hold up in headwinds, with a -1 turn that gives a touch of workability at high speed. Star plastic is the sweet spot — premium durability, grippy in all conditions, consistent flight for hundreds of rounds. If you throw 90m+ and want one driver that does everything, start here.
Flight Numbers
12 / 5 / -1 / 3 — that -1 turn separates the Destroyer from purely overstable drivers. At high arm speeds it works — giving you a touch of distance-maximising turn before the reliable 3 fade brings it home.

Why the Destroyer Has Lasted Thirty Years
Most distance drivers come and go. New moulds appear, get hyped, then settle into a niche. The Destroyer has never needed a niche — it works for players throwing 90m and players throwing 120m+.
The -1 turn means it's not punishingly overstable for intermediate arms, but the 3 fade means it finishes reliably left even in headwinds. That combination of workability and reliability is rare at speed 12. Other drivers are either more understable (less reliable in wind) or more overstable (harder to achieve full distance). The Destroyer sits in the middle of that spectrum, which is exactly where most players need their go-to driver to be.
Star Plastic Is the Right Choice
Innova makes the Destroyer in multiple plastics. DX is cheap but beats in fast. Champion is the stiffest premium option. Star is the sweet spot — softer than Champion for better grip, more durable than DX, and the flight characteristics stay consistent through hundreds of rounds.
Star also has a slightly more understable release from new compared to Champion, which makes it more accessible for intermediate players moving up to speed 12. Buy Star unless you specifically want the extra overstability of Champion for extreme headwind situations.
"Every serious player has thrown a Destroyer at some point. Most of them still carry one."
Arm Speed Requirements
The Destroyer is a speed-12 disc. Thrown at lower arm speeds (below ~85m), it will behave like an overstable disc — fading early and not achieving full distance. At 90m+ arm speed it activates correctly, using the -1 turn to achieve maximum glide before the 3 fade brings it left.
Players who aren't reaching 90m consistently should start with a speed 9-10 driver like the Avenger SS and work up. Throwing the right disc for your arm speed is always more important than throwing the most popular disc.
Who It's For
- Advanced players (90m+): The primary audience. A reliable, wind-resistant driver with enough workability to not feel punishing. Carry two — one for headwinds, one for tailwinds.
- Players stepping up from speed 10: The Destroyer is a natural progression from the Avenger SS. The extra speed adds distance; the -1 turn keeps it accessible.
- Wind players: The 3 fade handles headwinds without the disc becoming uncontrollably overstable. One of the most reliable headwind drivers at any speed.

Final Verdict
The Destroyer's track record speaks for itself. Thirty years, multiple world champions, and it's still the first distance driver most advanced players reach for. Star plastic keeps the flight honest for seasons.
If you throw far and want one driver that does it all, the Destroyer has already proven it can.
