Latitude 64 River First Run Review — Glide That Doesn't Quit

Seven glide. That number sounds impossible until you throw a River and watch it float. The First Run version is slightly more understable than later runs — meaning it works even better at lower arm speeds. This is the disc that makes beginners look like they've been playing for years.

Quick Verdict

The River First Run is one of the best discs for players who want distance without needing a big arm. The glide is real, the flight is forgiving, and the First Run plastic makes it slightly softer and more understable than later pressings. If you've struggled to get distance from fairway drivers, try this one.

What First Run Means

Latitude 64 produces discs in batches — and the first production run of any mould often comes out slightly different from later runs. With the River, First Run discs are softer in plastic and slightly more understable than subsequent pressings. They turn a touch more and have a bit more glide.

For beginners and intermediate players, that's better. It means the disc works harder at lower arm speeds. Later run Rivers are still excellent, but if you can find a First Run, it's worth the extra search.

The Glide Is the Point

Seven glide sounds like a marketing number. It's not. Throw the River on a flat release and it just floats. Other drivers at similar arm speed cover 10–15 metres less. That extra carry is entirely from the glide — the River stays in the air longer than physics seems to allow.

That said, high glide comes with a downside: the disc is sensitive to wind. A headwind will kill the glide fast, and the River will fade earlier than expected. Use it in calm conditions or light tailwinds and it's one of the most efficient distance discs you can throw.

"It floats. There's no other way to describe it. It just stays in the air."

Who Should Throw It

  • Beginners (50–70m): This might be the best fairway driver a beginner can throw. The glide covers for lack of arm speed, and the soft fade keeps it from diving left. Excellent choice.
  • Intermediate players: Great for max distance on open holes and tailwind shots. Pair it with an overstable option for headwinds and you've covered both ends of the spectrum.
  • Advanced players: Useful as a turnover disc and for big hyzerflip lines. At higher arm speeds it becomes quite understable — treat it accordingly.

Final Verdict

The River First Run is a rare disc — one that genuinely helps players at every level. Beginners get distance they haven't been able to achieve. Intermediate players get a reliable turnover tool. Advanced players get a hyzerflip workhorse.

The catch is wind. This isn't your headwind disc. Pick your spots and it'll be one of the most rewarding discs in your bag. First Run is worth hunting down specifically — the slightly more understable flight makes it more useful for more players.
